cd information
This holiday season, Swing into Christmas with the Peters
Drury Quartet! Originally from the Yukon, this jazz foursome knows
all about the long cold nights of winter and the magic of a snowbound
Christmas. For their first seasonal recording, the Quartet has mined
those memories of Christmases past, pulled out their favorite carols,
and given them a fresh “PDQ” spin. From their salsa rendition
of Little Toy Trains to the surprising 4 part harmonies in The First
Noel (even the drummer is in on the vocals!), this warm-hearted album
maintains a down-home feel while keeping the group’s trademark
energy level up!
cd reviews
It isn't that far from the North Pole to the Yukon – so if anyone should have a handle on holiday tunes, it's chipper Whitehorse piano-jazz outfit PDQ. Chestnuts Roasted: O Holy Night; White Christmas; First Noel and 10 more. Yule Love: The salsafied swing of Little Toy Trains; the Chet Bakerish crooning on White Christmas. Yule Wish: They were playing at your Christmas party. 2 out of 3 stars. Darryl Sterdan, Winnipeg Sun, December 3, 2004
I attended your November 2004 concert in Weyburn. Not being a 'jazz' lover, I wondered what was in store for the evening. Well, it was one of the best performances I ever attended. You have sold me on this type of jazz for sure. When purchasing your Christmas CD at the concert, I made a comment about your 'dead on' voices and harmonies. That, plus every instrument is played with excellence - "Who Could Ask For Anything More!"
Of course, all songs on the CD are super, but the one involving vocals that amazes me is Frosty The Snowman. It's quick and hard to imagine how Luis can play piano plus sing such intriguing pitch-perfect harmonies. Obviously you all work hard at making jazz look so easy. The style is unbeatable. What a blessing four such talents found each other. You're #1 World Class. Thank you, thank you. Val Thomas, Weyburn, SK
